Comments from a couple of people on another list. They know about this kind of thing. One of them regularly plays bluegrass. Am sharing their comments, good information.:
Great shot, Ginger! I love that angle -- that's what I see a lot when I'm playing with fiddlers...standing right there with 'em. I can tell he is an old time sort of player cuz of the way he has his left hand -- very unorthodox...but that shows that he learned from other old guys maybe decades ago and didn't do what the "classical" folks do. I have jammed with some old guys who are pretty decent players and they have such interesting postures. It's very cool!
I loved that too, Ginger! xxxx is spot on -- I don't ever recall seeing that particular kind of hand position, but it took me right back to seeing the old guys who learned from greatuncles and granddads instead of from MTV! I may have a list of things I'd like to do in this lifetime, but you've reminded me that I also have a good list of things I have done. And listening to good music in the southern Appalachians is one of them. Great shot.
