Please see my other butterfly shot, I chose this one, I wanted the feel of the tree, but the other one is "more" butterfly.

Is that "still" motion?

On bridge at Magnolia Gardens, very near the Ashley River. In the pond behind me I often find an egret. He then goes (walks) to the other really pretty pond where I have taken many photos. There are also alligators in that pond and whatever else one would expect.
Bill took this picture, so I guess technically he is the photographer, but I was the producer and director. Also, I played myself in this photo.
Had miles to go, as the man said.
ginger (late today, sorry!)
As an aside: Have any of you ever forgotten that your glasses were on your head?
I looked all over and thought I had dropped them in the water... with the gator!
Looking there, it was certainly possible.Kingfisher, as the sun set, later than I should have been there.
My new 30D, first trip out. Wonderful camera. It really is, fits me perfectly! Made lots of mistakes, totally wrong WB setting for one, that was just silly.
I also had to spend time last night downloading the Adobe update so I could even see the RAW 30D files. Tired today, as usual, smile.
Learning curve in general, I have a lot going on this month!
I love that LCD screen!
How does one keep it clean, or any LCD screen, do you all know???
Lots of gold in our evening skies. Will be even more pronounced as we go towards winter!Gull

I already uploaded one of these, it was here, featured and all. Then it disappeared. If there are two tomorrow morning....ignore the other one and "do" this one!
Darn server....or whatever it is!
I have been up for hours on this. Do other people here get to eat dinner, watch TV and read books??
ginger (I was shooting with both cameras today towards the end: diff lenses, so this was taken with the 20D. I just looked, but I adore the 30D. I was after flocks of Ibis, and since I can't photograph them well, I thought it would help to have access to different lenses...........didn't.) You all, Bill has a 20D which belongs to his employer, I have access to that sometimes. And my 20D still works in a fashion, it just has issues.Turkey Vulture In Flight, he had a prize right down where I parked at Pitt Street Bridge.
(This photo is full frame. I was lucky.)
It didn't look like much to me. Please see this photo...it is linked to dGrin. I like it a lot. It is two together and harder to scrutinized. Please give it a look.

Friday
Having discovered that I now have many photos on the Pitt Street Bridge area, I have decided to justify that by the idea that I am doing a Pitt Street Bridge Series, and this is one of the most recent photos in that series.
gingerShrimp Baiting Season, Charleston Harobor after dark on opening day
9/15/2006
This is for small boats. Poles mark where the bait is thrown in. Then nets are cast to gather the shrimp who are after the bait.
This is a grand, wonderful occasion. I have seen these boats in the harbor every fall since I moved here 20 some years ago.
The baiting is done at night, with lights on and off in the boats. I was fortunate to find a good place to watch the season get under way this year. We stayed to walk out thru the woods after dark. I did not have my tripod, hated to ask Bill to carry it. It is expected to be a very good year for these shrimpers.
thanks for looking, ginger

(I sit here and marvel at the groups of three all over that
photograph. I like it. I was following the yellow boat on
the left. I do not often photograph that fort, but the light
was perfect for it. Only cropping was a tad to straighten the
horizon more perfectly. What intriques me is the boats in
groups of three, the poles in 3, shifting thirds, smile.
have a good day all!)Say CAROLINA shrimp!

I should get extra stars for placement and posing of birds.
It wasn't easy!!
(hehe)
there is a dust spot, will
take care of it tomorrow, am
tired.......
check out this thread on dGrin. More Pelicans, diff presentations, and one will be my challenge entry. who knows, lots of birds this time.
but this is another shot, thought you might like to see it.
http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=42948Sunday Morning Fishing...and a dolphin swims by
(I tried to get that dolphin, couldn't. Then was looking at this photo and there he is, or the top of him.)
I know it is a dolphin as I saw him "play" intermittantly. They are as difficult, or more so, to catch as a flitting small bird.
does look like a shark, though, smile! My Dogs: Merry Chapel in front and Skye in the back, at the end of an already tiring few hours at the dog park.
Skye, the dog in back, he has hip dysplasia, and the arthritis that goes with it, he is five yrs old. He was quite tired after a short bit that day. He could not climb up the bank from the lake. (I took photos before I helped him, smile).
So, I am delighted to see this photo and work it up of Skye and Merry Chapel running so happily after a bit of a rest. Just delighted.
There may be a bit of blur, soft or motion, but I am happy with it!
For Sunday
See the other shots I worked up from that day. Did it tonight. I have another project that is keeping me very busy.

http://upacreekPHOTOGRAPHY.smugmug.com/gallery/827456/1/98850877Taken 9/30 for Sunday. A little girl I found interesting. I took several photos of her, then I was playing around today and they ended up like this.
I always keep the individual ones, too.
I have choices and I would be worried about what to post for my daily, but it is after 4 AM, and I am just going with this, smile!
Enjoy, or not. I can change it if you want.......in the morning! I am sure my dogs will wake me up.

This is the serious one of her by itself. I was going to use it, but I also like the shot of her running, and as I said, it is late.......I am tired.

have a good day!

http://upacreekPHOTOGRAPHY.smugmug.com/photos/99334868-L.jpgStep And Go: Charleston's finest fire dept. Don't forget to pull up the suspenders!
Used to have a dalmation, but then Charleston got too big for that.
I saw these boots next to the truck, saw them yesterday, went back today to get them. The fireman I saw was very nice! This place is the best, it really is, up to date equipment, but very old timey and traditional in feel!!
Big Grin, ginger (These are not for show, they were around in the places needed for the men to get into them.)I did not touch anything, all this is arranged for expedience.

9/4/2006
This is the orig, brought up from RAW with only an adj so the birds weren't blown. I sharpened it, and got rid of the dust spots that I saw.
Thusie, liked it when I showed it on another thread thing. Some photos seem to me that they would look better large and this is one of those.
The birds are centered, I think, but Thusie liked the photo better............I am not touching it and centering doesn't bother me anyway.
thanks for commenting.
gingerMarsh Bird: wonder of wonders, he was just settin' on top of a tall bush. I shot a while before he flew off. Never happened before. Even his whiskers are in focus.

Very grainy, I like them that way, but I know others might not. It was in the studio, the lighting was not that good, plus I was often shooting into a mirror.

ginger (they are all the same size, too) Also, they were not open yet and did not want us there....but they forgot and left the gate open. (The Halloween Scam?) At least, there is no cover up that I know of, smile.

Dance In Red
10/12/2006
I got home a little after
midnight. I did this one.
I hope you enjoy.
The background was a nightmare
as they did not have sets, I could
not go backstage, but this dance
was very dark which worked to my
advantage, I think. This is the
end of the dance. I kept shooting
as the lights went down.Migration Restlessness,
or some such foolishness, a few
birds were there.......about this
many. Didn't do anything. I
started to leave, and they took off
on this "fly about". I photographed it. They settled back down, and nothing else happened. I left. It is a strange barren autumn world out there. Few birds, no butterflys.
Strange, I have never seen birds do this before.
Here is another example just before this shot:
http://upacreekphotography.smugmug.com/gallery/955802/1/103510882/LargeHAH! A squirrel as we experience each other, OOF a bit and very wary!
They seemed to like the gloom in the area. Running, playing, until I tried to get this close, closer?, to photograph them, then it was up the trees. Eventually it was into the thick grass and trees around the marsh lake.
I did get to see them play, though.
I don't think I will ever see a squirrel lounge. smile,

Link to a photo of the activity going on behind me. OOF photo, I tried using a watercolor filter and black and white. Neither worked well, wish it had been in focus. But I don't know that I saw the beach for trying to get a photo of every happening........and a wedding besides, smile.
