• Another happy southern fisherman
I chose this one of him as I am
reflected in his glasses, though I doubt that you can see me. You might get more idea of what is seeing by the reflection.
He was very nice. He was in mid cast with his fish pole when he stopped and was totally aware of me. I laughed and said, "Let her rip". That is all I said, except my mumbling about "birds".
Also, due to fortunate circumstances I have two cameras around my neck: my 30D and my sick 20D, or bill's 20D. Either way that allows me to have a lens for the people and a lens for the birds. Makes my mumbling somewhat believable, and my neck a bit sore, smile. Fortunate for the moment!

Here is my alternate: it shows this same man from more of a distance. This bridge used to be for a trolley across the marsh and the inland waterway to Sullivan's Island, so in this photo you can see the island, with Stella Maris church where I go, and the inland waterway with a boat.
Happy people!!! me and them....
• For MOM, the pesky Kingfisher! You know I can ID these birds when they are still just specks in the sky. They fly like a Kingfisher, look like a Kingfisher, etc. I am noticing this bird all over the marsh. No longer just sitting, at least not near me.
So, I am still trying to "get" that Kingfisher shot. Wanted to show you that I regularly shoot them. My lens wouldn't focus he was so small and at a distance, so I tried manual. These aren't great, I mean I doubt anyone would buy them, but they will go into my Kingfisher Gallery as a record of how hard I am trying. Remember the white on the face is characteristic of a Kingfisher, the eye is behind the white. I can't get it to show at this distance, etc.
I like the light in his wings in this shot. The focus is less good. Neither are great in that dept. But better than last year.
• Best Seat In The House, as the sun sets.
for Tuesday

(If you don't like that crop, not much, I have others) smile, let me know.....

Work flow: crop to a vert 8 X 10, RGB curves, Sat +20, Sharpened bird only, reduced any noise that might have been in the blue sky, went to selective colors and raised the red about +20, in the red I raised the yellow a bit + 15, maybe. The bird was excluded from any of that with the rope thingy. I did not try to lighten the bird, but didn't think he needed to go darker. The last thing I did was take the burn tool and brush it lightly at a low setting over the bottom branches so they would show the red more and blend into the top "branches".

The original as came from RAW is here. It is actually the large version of the original. It is in a private gallery. I can make the huge original avail here, but remember it is only as came from RAW. Let me know if you want to see more. Advice now is welcome. ginger

You can do as you wish re comments, etc. But my photo for today is the one below. I am just playing with filters and sharing. This photo did not lend itself to watercolors. It sure made a nice dramatic Glowing Edges, but that was a bit extreme for a photo.
Me and my daughter, Sara, blowing out candles on our mutual birthday cake (a day early, sun, birthday, today, mon, nov 20). I turn 67, she turns 39.

I shot without a flash, it looked ok, seemed like a good idea at the time, but Bill got the best shot right here. I got much blur. Here it is mostly grain, smile.

Bad weather coming here, oh, boy... I want to get out and shoot.
we might even get snow. Hope I get up to Sara's again Thursday. Nice time today, everyone is very tired!
• Bird walk with fall color, very edge of Magnolia Gardens!
11/27/2006

Actual fall colors of South Carolina. In my experience, we don't get this color. Some time in the spring the leaves just fall off w/o ceremony. But this year, I am seeing these glorious colors. I know it is almost Dec and fall colors are supposed to be over. But this is what it looked like on my quest for birds yesterday (Mon AM)

One of my other favorite photos so far, for yesterday.. This is what I walked to get: birds. Found wonderful color here and got me some birds, too. My favorite bird, other than the wood stork, is the Snowy Egret. He does not disappoint. Please see him on his own private dock (maybe that is what "private dock", no trespassing meant, smile).
My choice: for Friday (filter applied, reduced to about 20%, then the whole filter erased from the bird.
Gradient filter in layers. Blend mode Multiply, use reverse, use 157 for the size of the gradient. Use triangle, very unusual, usually use one of the others. turn on multiply to position the gradient with the move tool. Then reduce multiply to taste. I like to make it so subtle as not to be noticed.

Great shot, Ginger! I love that angle -- that's what I see a lot when I'm playing with fiddlers...standing right there with 'em. I can tell he is an old time sort of player cuz of the way he has his left hand -- very unorthodox...but that shows that he learned from other old guys maybe decades ago and didn't do what the "classical" folks do. I have jammed with some old guys who are pretty decent players and they have such interesting postures. It's very cool!

I loved that too, Ginger! xxxx is spot on -- I don't ever recall seeing that particular kind of hand position, but it took me right back to seeing the old guys who learned from greatuncles and granddads instead of from MTV! I may have a list of things I'd like to do in this lifetime, but you've reminded me that I also have a good list of things I have done. And listening to good music in the southern Appalachians is one of them. Great shot.
